Barbie in front of a House
______

The Sahalmi Market in Lahore (the Chinese products selling market) is full of Barbie imagery. The image could be found in children school bags, water bottle, mirrors, decorative items, exercise books etc. This image is taken from a children drawing book intended for Pakistani children to fill colours. As a child, I never played Barbie dolls. Therefore, I made my own version of Barbie through the play of distortion and multiplication. The gesture of distortion and dissolution to me meant a way to address my own upbringing that coincided with proliferation of Barbie image and its iconic and commercial value made possible through cheap productions.
